Ilioinguinal Injection Procedure

The ilioinguinal nerve lies in your abdomen above your hip bone and sends sensations to your lower abdomen, groin and pelvis. If the nerve is injured or pinched it can cause pain or numbness in these areas. This can happen due to trauma or surgery. During an ilioinguinal injection, a small amount of numbing medication with or without steroids is injected around this nerve. Although uncommon, risks may include bleeding, infection, nerve damage and allergic reaction to the medication.
