Mary Papandria, LP
Licensed Psychologist

"I utilize a cognitive-behavioral approach to treatment. That is, helping patients change their thoughts and their behaviors by learning strategies that will help them cope with their pain, adjust to changes to their lifestyle and function better overall."

Mary Papandria, LP, knew even before college that she wanted to pursue psychology. During her undergraduate psychology education at Marian College in Indianapolis, Indiana, she decided that she wanted to incorporate a more thorough understanding of the human body into her study of the mind. That path led her to a clinical rehabilitation psychology graduate program at Purdue University in Indianapolis, and later a doctorate in the same subject. Her education focused on the study and understanding of people with physical injuries and illnesses, and how those things can impact our minds, emotional states and ability to cope.

Mary, who is certified in hypnosis with pain patients and behavioral medicine populations, knows the importance of taking a psychological approach to pain. "Pain affects every aspect of patients' lives," she says. "Patients need to understand that psychological changes can occur if they have chronic pain and that they may become depressed or anxious, and that those issues need to be dealt with." Mary takes an individualized approach to treatment, getting to know each patient as best as possible so she can help them cope with the pain and adjust to a different, yet fulfilling, life.
