Occipital Nerve BlockAn occipital nerve block is an injection of numbing medication and cortisone (steroid) into the scalp at the back of the head. It is used in the diagnosis and treatment of occipital neuralgia (nerve pain) or tension headaches. If you respond well to the block it may be repeated. Although uncommon, risks may include bleeding, infection, nerve damage and allergic reaction to the medication. |
