Hypogastric Plexus Block

A hypogastric plexus block is the injection of numbing medication directly to the group of nerves that supply sensation (including pain sensations) to the pelvic organs. A hypogastric plexus block is performed for the treatment of pelvic pain.  Although uncommon, risks may include nerve damage, renal or urethral puncture, infection, bleeding and allergic reaction to the medication.
