SciaticaSciatica refers to pain that stems from the sciatic nerve, a large nerve extending from the lower back down the back of each leg. Sciatica is not a disorder, but a symptom of another underlying problem, such as a spinal stenosis, a pinched/irritated nerve in the lower back or a herniated disc. Sciatica symptoms include: pain in the rear or leg that increases when sitting, burning or tingling sensations down one or both legs, weakness or numbness in the leg or foot, shooting pain down one or both legs or loss of bowel or bladder control. Pain from sciatica can vary from a mild aching feeling to a sharp severe pain that can be debilitating. Mild sciatica usually goes away in less than one week. If pain or symptoms last longer than a week or pain increases in severity, you may want to contact a doctor. Treatment Options:
